John M Ramsdale, Dear Sir/Madam, Coming from a technical and mathematical background I slowly developed a greater interest in business, marketing and other related fields. This initially manifested itself in my desire to become involved with Gem Hadar, a small start-up company to gain ‘hands-on’ business experience. My foray into software contracting slightly broadened my knowledge, and my appreciation of both business and managerial issues was further enhanced during my study for the MBA. It is during this period that I met my future wife from Hong Kong. In the last few years, we have been joint managing directors of Arts of the Dragon, which specialises in the retail sale of both cultural and fashionable Oriental and Tibetan handicraft products (www.artsofthedragon.co.uk). However, as a relatively niche company we both believe this business is already above its optimal size and can be run most efficiently by just one individual. Specifically it is far more efficient for one individual to operate the business below the VAT threshold rather than for two individuals to operate the business above the VAT threshold. I am therefore actively looking for a new position, which will satisfy my desire for personal growth. However, at the same time, it would be most rewarding to deploy the skills and aptitudes I have developed during my early career, whilst studying for the MBA, and also while managing my own business.
