Mount Huangshan or more famously Yellow Mountain is one of the most beautiful and famous mountains in China.
It has been depicted by countless poets, artists, embroiderers and more recently photographers and is simply one of the iconic images not only of China but perhaps even the world. It has even had a style of painting named after it.

The Yellow Mountain is in fact a mountain range rather than a single peak. It consists of over 70 peaks, a number of streams, three waterfalls and two lakes. But rather than numbers what is most impressive is the beauty.
It is famous for it's peaks, the unusual rock formations, the pines, the hot springs and of course the mist. In fact, according to the Ming dynasy geologist Xu Xiake who visiting the region twice, such is it's beauty that there is no need to visit any other mountain in China after you have visited Mount Huangshan. Similarly, a famous Tang dynasty poet Li Bai also eulogised about the beauty, stating:
"Once I was on its lofty summit,
Admiring Tianmu Pine below.
The place is still traceable where the immortal
Before ascending to heaven made elixir out of jade" - Li Bai
And it is this beauty that inspired a Tang dynasty emperor to decree that from this day forward it should be known as Mount Huang, commonly thought to be in honour of the legendary emperor Huang Di (the Yellow Emperor). But maybe with the colour yellow representing the emperor, the name simply implied that from now on it would be known as the Emperor's mountain.
In either case this was high praise indeed and from that date onwards it became popular with visitors and artists alike.
